Superman Reboot Confirmed!

August 23, 2008

Sorry folks for the long pause in between but the truth is that I was busy with family. Been visiting everyone around the globe lately and you know how parents can be like. They just want ALL of your time! Not that I am complaining of course! I love you guys!

Right on then. On to the news at hand.

Warner Bros has now officially confirmed that they will reboot the Superman franchise. You heard me. REBOOT. Makes me wonder if that means they might do away with Routh and relaunch Superman much like The Incredible Hulk or Batman Begins.

Movie Review – Tropic Thunder [ 6/10 ]

August 13, 2008

The first thing that catches your attention about Tropic Thunder is Ben Stilleras the director. At lease that is what made me groan the first time I heard about the movie! Having endured his last directorial attempt: Zoolander, I feared the worst for Tropic Thunder. Still what I saw in the trailers and read in the previews somehow comforted me that maybe, just maybe, this time it would be a different experience.

It was thus with fingers crossed that I went to see Tropic Thunder and I am happy to report that it did manage to tickle my funny bone here and there.

I didn’t walk out with the confidence that TT (Tropic Thunder) will be the funniest movie of the season. Nothing against Ben Stiller but it is way too early in the year for such declarations. Let’s not confuse my verdict on The Dark Knight. We all know TDK was a league apart. TT, however, just might have the potential to be a comical giant for 2008.

David Hasselhoff in Anaconda 3: Offspring

August 12, 2008

MTV Movie Blog has reported that Anaconda 3 is indeed slithering closer and closer to release and standing shoulder to shoulder with the slitherings this time are the likes of David Hasselhoff and John Rhys-Davies.

The plot follows a mercenary who joins a team to capture a dangerous anaconda when it escapes from a top secret lab. It is revealed that the anaconda has been modified with an immortality drug, which makes it more vicious, intelligent and dangerous. More so, this sneaky reptile is about to give birth to a lot many more like it and must stopped at all cost!

A shame though that this movie is a Direct to DVD release slated for October 21 this year. However, it has already been aired on the SCI FI channel on July 26.

From what I have heard and read about the movie, there are poor CGI efforts behind the two anacondas but there is some solace to be found with the presence of the hot PhD and snake expert Crystal Allen, who accoding to one commentator, is a smoking hot blonde and spends almost the entire movie in a tight, form-fitting tank top (see poster).

Shia LaBeouf might lose a pinky!

August 7, 2008
Shia LeBeouf
Bad news for the Transformers sequel in the making! Just read at /Filmthat Mr. LeBeouf might have one or two of his fingers amputated owing to the DUI accident back in July!

Already, there had been an air of uncertainty around the sets ever since director Bay had declared that the storyline for the upcoming sequel will have to be altered to make space for Shia’s injury. Now with the news of a possible amputation, the project has been hit by an even bigger turmoil.

Hollywood does not make movies or write scripts/plots as they go along. If indeed this news holds true and Shia goes along with an amputation, this would mean some serious changes. Don’t forget that it is not entirely possible to shoot around an amputated hand so probably several scenes might have to be re-shot. That is only a handful of complications I could figure out from the top of my head. I’m sure Bay is not an easy soul at this point. And what about Shia? He or his representative have so far declined to comment on the recent development.

Will this push the production towards a possible delay?

Could this incident and its consequences eventually undermine the quality and success of the sequel?

Questions, Questions!

Transformers 2 update: The Return of Megatron!

August 6, 2008

Megatron

Hold up!

What is this I hear about Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen over at CHUD?

Megatron may be getting brought back by the Autobots, who need him to conquer the new menace. But I’ve learned that this time he won’t be that weird alien jet. This time he’s a tank.

Now we’re talking! :D

Don’t know a lot about Fallen but Megatron has been the ultimate badass of the Transformers saga in my eyes. The notion of Autobots joining forces with the head of Decepticons to defeat an even mightier and more evil enemy is like whoa! I’m dying to find out how Fallen looks like! Will he make Optimus and Megatron cry ‘uncle’?

The Dark Knight’s shadow goes beyond $400 Million!

August 6, 2008

Within a record 18 days of its release, The Dark Knight has struck another landmark as it surpassed $ 400 Million. According to mediabynumbers, The movie amounted for $ 158,411,483 at the end of the first week of its release. The second week it grabbed $ 75,166,466 and the third week resulted in $ 42,664,219 thus giving it a total earning of $ 400,031,000 so far!

With this kind of response to the sequel, it only raises the bar for Christopher Nolan and his crew to make an even better and breath-taking Batman 3! My goodness, you mean they have to try to top The Dark Knight? Holy popcorn and cheese nachos!

Movie Review – The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor [ 3/10 ]

August 5, 2008

A Mummy movie that makes Love Guru look golden! How about that!

I’m going to say it out straight because there simply isn’t any sugar-coated way to say it: For what it was worth, the Mummy franchise was good while it lasted! It’s time to lock down the tombs and walk away! If The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor has not been a rude awakening to this fact, then I don’t know what is!

There! That wasn’t too hash was it?

Rob Cohen’s Mummy, the third, unfortunately falls in the category of mundane trilogies that lack any substance or appeal. To be brutally honest, The Midnight Meat Train should have been given more time in theaters than ToTDE (Tomb of The Dragon Emperor) because it simply deserved so! This movie deserves a Direct to DVD release. Period!

Like it or not, Mummy 4 will come!

August 5, 2008
Tomb of the Dragon Emperor failed to impress
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor failed to impress.

The third installment of The Mummy came out unwrapped and unimpressive to say the least. It will most probably go down as one of the oh so many boring trilogies. One would have wondered if that was the end for the tomb villains but director Rob Cohen says NO!

If you have not seen The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor as yet, you ought to stop here (but I know you won’t) because we are going to let you in on some plots from the movie itself that just might pave the path to the fourth in the series.

As pointed out at the MTV Movies blog,

Brendan Frasier as an immortal hero up against an immortal villain is just one of many ideas “Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” director Rob Cohen wants to explore in another installment of the blockbuster series, he told MTV News, insisting that a fourth installment is all but guaranteed if audiences respond well to “Mummy 3.”

“Rick, because he was treated by the pool of eternal life, Rick is now immortal. I’d love to explore how that plays out for him,” Cohen said. “Another spoiler, Jonathan [John Hannah] winds up with the artifact in this film and he doesn’t realize, nor do we, what its powers are. In my mind, that artifact still has a lot of prizes in it, the eye of Shangri La, this big diamond.”

On several occasions prior to and after the release of the movie, both Brendan Fraser and Maria Bello had hinted that a fourth installment is on the cards and might take place some where in the Amazon or Peru. Mere coincidence that these claims are in line with the ending of the movie where Jonathan has decided to move to Peru with the Eye of Shangri-La, a place he claims has no mummies. After he leaves, a caption appears on the screen stating that a few weeks later mummies were discovered in Peru?

Like it or not, we’ll see a fourth movie!

The Dark Knight still on top!

August 5, 2008
The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight - Slaying competition for the third week in a row!

No matter where you look, Nolan’s The Dark Knight has been out-smarting any other competition for the third successive week! This, as FirstShowing declares is ‘history being made this year’!

The most recent block-buster to compete with Batman is The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor that had done a business of $ 42.5 million by the end of last week where as The Dark Knight stood mighty high at $ 43.8 million.

I couldn’t be more happier to hear this. Whoever thought that the Chinese Mummy could outclass The Dark Knight should shove his head up where the sun does not shine. TDK is way out of it’s league and the figures further strengthen that. Personally, this should serve as a final nail in the coffin for the Mummy franchise. They must not make a fourth, as the ending of the movie suggests (Mummies in Peru! God damn it!).

All hail the Dark Knight!

Scooby Doo – the third

August 4, 2008

 Scooby Doo

News is that a third “Scooby-Doo” movie will begin production Monday in Vancouver. However, unlike its former two movies, this one will bypass the theaters and land straight on Cartoon Network and DVDs in fall 2009.

Scooby-Doo: In the Beginning,” a live-action/computer-animated film, will serve as a prequel to the 2002 and 2004 “Scooby-Doo” movies, it finds the Mystery gang uniting for the first time to solve the haunting of their high school.

I never really liked the movies but it was always a treat to see Sarah Michelle Gellar! Now that the leading cast has been axed in favor of unknown Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini has been replaced, respectively, by Rob Amell (“Life With Derek”) as Freddy, newcomers Kaitlyn Melton as Daphne, Nick Palatas as Shaggy and Hayley Alcroft as Velma. The computer-generated Scooby-Doo will be voiced by Frank Welker, a longtime voice actor on the animated “Scooby-Doo” series. Brian Levant (“Are We There Yet?”) will direct.

And yes, I know I could have done without posting this useless news. Oh what the hell!

Movie Review – The Midnight Meat Train [ 7.5/10 ]

August 2, 2008
The Midnight Meat Train

The Midnight Meat Train - simply promises to be the best horror film of 2008

A month or two ago, I didn’t even know one of the short stories featured in Clive Barker’s Book of Blood collection was being made in to a horror film. Then someone told me to wake, smell the coffee… and watch blood sprawling everywhere!

The Midnight Meat Train is about experiencing pure, unadultrated horror. Where movies like The Dark Knight, The Incredible Hulk, or Iron Man are contending to be this summer’s action block-busters, TMMT will take you along for a one-way trip filled with terror and gore!

Movie Review – The Dark Knight [ 9/10 ]

August 1, 2008

FINALLY! A summer block-buster that overshoots expectations and leave you fully satisfied!

Mark my words. This will be the easiest review on Movielicious for quite some time. Excellence knew no bounds either behind or in front of the camera with Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight!

You have never seen Gotham City so amoral and corrupt, or a performance by a villain so iconic, and you have NEVER seen a Batman franchise so dark and haunting! This one is not for the kids. It’s an adult, dark movie that leaves you impressed and provoked at the same time! How many movies can boast of that effect?

Prince of Persia now in 2010

The Sands of Time shifts a year ahead

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time shifts a year ahead

Screen Rant has confirmed that the Prince of Persia project has been officially moved from its June 19, 2009 release to May 28, 2010. Yes, that’s almost a full year!

The reason?

The film (produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and starring Jake Gyllenhaal) is sandwiched between Dreamwork’s Shrek Goes Fourth (which will have been in theatres for a week already) and Marvel’s Thor (opening the following week!)

Bummer!!

Venom to make his debut!

August 1, 2008
gets his own stardom soon!

Marvel's Venom: gets his own stardom soon!

Yesterday, the Hollywood Reporter reported that things are finally taking shape to bring together a movie based on Spiderman’s arh enemy: Venom! Thank you God and Sony for hearing our prayers!

This guy is pure evil and he doesn’t have to do a lot to prove that to Spiderman. Although, he was not portrayed all that well in Spiderman 3. His character was just not equipped with the badness that we have come to know Venom for through comics!

As Hollywood reporter points out, this idea could have emerged owing to the huge admiration for Heath Ledger for playing a vile Joker in The Dark Knight or with the X-Men franchise splitting in its own spin-offs with Wolverine and Magneto.

Would Topher Grace, the guy who played Venom in Spiderman 3, be the choice this time? It has not been confirmed as yet. What is known at this point is that this movie will not replace the scheduled Spiderman-4 in 2011.

In Images: Street Fighter – The Legend of Chun-Li

July 31, 2008

Legend Films has released some new set photos of their latest project Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.

Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-Li is the second movie adaptation of the popular video game Street Fighter. The first big screen version came out in 1994 and featured martial arts star Jean-Claude Van Damme.

As for the pictures, you can see Chun Li (Kristin Kreuk), and Balrog (Michael Clarke Duncan) in them. I am guessing the guy on the crane in the last picture is Vega who is rumored to be played by rapper Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas fame)! Prove me wrong if it is otherwise though.
